Table lamps can be so stylish, and they often provide just the right amount of lighting when you don't wish to use a bright, overhead light. They are 'objet d'art' too so shopping for them can be a lot of fun, and selecting the right ones can really affect the entire mood of your room, taking it from mysterious and dim to cheery and bright with literally just the flick of a switch. Picking out table lamps that will accentuate your room is easiest when you take the following into consideration:
- 1. The style of the piece. The style of your room often dictates the style of illumination you choose, unless your home is decorated in a more eclectic (mixed) decorative vibe. Bear in mind that there is no right or wrong choice when it comes to choosing the local illumination sources. Let your style and your preferences be your guide. It is invariably best to choose a pair instead of a single, even if you don't have an immediate need for two right now. If you decide that you need a pair later on, you may find it hard to find the exact match.
- 2. Illumination needs. Choose the smaller units that provide the right amount of illumination for the area that you are planning to use it for. Do you plan to use it as an accentuation or for reading? The purpose of the illumination must be considered when you shop for your accessories. This means that if you are it as the main illumination source in the room, you'll obviously want to buy a more powerful one or even a pair than say for a bedside reader.
- 3. Size of piece. Again, what exactly the illumination is for will dictate the best size to choose. If the tabletop site is small and narrow, you will want to choose a lamp that is in proportion.
- 4. Price. Tabletop illumination can be found in a myriad of price points, but if you're like most folks, price will definitely be a factor into your choice. Don't allow price to be a main consideration. You can find beautiful items for far less than you'd imagine when you shop online.
- 5. Safety. Never purchase a table lamp that is not UL (Underwriter's Laboratory) listed. The UL-listed symbol means that it has been produced to be safe for home use. Some cheaper one may not have received this stamp of approval.
