Choosing Appropriate Bathroom Lighting

Designing a bathroom needs very detailed planning and involves a lot of consideration. There are a lot of lighting layers in your bathroom that you can add or address. There is the natural illumination from the windows, recess illumination, chandeliers even, for a more sophisticated look, sconces, accenting and vanity illumination just to mention a few. Play with the brightness, colors and shapes of each illumination layer to create a harmonious look and spectacular array of effects in your bathroom.

  1. 1. Natural sun coming from windows can give your bathroom a scenic feel. Windows over tubs create a beautiful backdrop. Be careful not to place windows where the sunlight can be reflected off the mirrors so you will not have to suffer from the glare. You can consult illumination experts or interior designers for this type of consideration.

  2. 2. Recessed illumination for the overall room brightening is a way to set the background if you do to have a natural source coming in. You may use them over the tub or in the shower. You may also want to place this in the middle of the bathroom if the area is small enough to be lit up by this type. A fixture that can make your bathroom look modern is the White Shower Lighting Recessed Lighting by Thomas Lighting. It is very useful and non-intrusive. It does not draw much attention to itself but can definitely add to your bathroom's illumination layers.

  3. 3. Chandeliers can kick your bathing experience a notch higher. Use a small one over your tub for more drama. Put it on a dimmer to control the amount of illumination and enjoy a relaxing atmosphere while soaking up. Small models like the sepia inspired and ornate Cognac Patina Spanish Vista Transitional 3 Light Mini Chandelier from the Spanish Vista Collection by Minka-Lavery will surely give your bathtub a warm glow and a soothing ambiance.

  4. 4. Wall mounted models can give soft light for you to get ready by. Aside from decorating your walls, they can also give an enchanting effect when placed over a mirror. Install mirrors and drill holes for the fitting to be installed over it. You may need to contact your local custom mirror shop for help with this. One such that will not need a mirror to give a unique effect and impact to your bathroom is the Antique White Retro Two Light Retro 24 Percent Lead Crystal Multi Colored Rosette Wall Sconce by Crystorama Lighting Group. Another model that can transport your bathroom into another place and time is the Paradise East Burnished Rattan Three-Light Sconce by Progress Lighting.

  5. 5. Vanity illumination with three to four light kits are a great way to liven up the vanity area in your bathroom. The kit should not be wider than the width of your cabinet. There are a lot of sizes available and a lot of designs to choose from. Feel like a queen with the Chrome Echelon Transitional Three light Bathroom Fixture from the Golden Echelon collection by Golden Lighting.
