Bathroom Lighting Choices

Too many people give too little thought to their bathroom lighting — which is why the flush mount solitary overhead fixture is so common and frankly boring in most situations! That's why homeowners are often surprised when they realize how much of a change they can realize when they install new well planned illumination. Giving your rest room a facelift has never been simpler (or more affordable). Let's look at how to find the right illumination for a totally new look to the smallest room in your home.

• Consider installing 3 different illumination types. Using three different types in the shower and changing area can really create a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere that makes taking a long soak somewhat of a spa experience! It can also add to the functionality of the space. Choose a nice spreading glow for overhead, and then complement it with spotlights on the sides of your vanity mirror for a movie star look that allows you to better see yourself when you're shaving or putting on makeup. Top it off with accented illumination that is used to showcase a particular print, wall hanging, or other decorative item.

• Select fixtures that complement your existing decor, and make sure they are similar in finish. Choose one finish and stick with it throughout the room, whether you like nickel or brushed copper — or even something more exotic, like bamboo. You'll find that there are so many ways to change illumination mood on the market that narrowing your choice down to just one will be the hardest part. When choosing a finish for your fixtures, make sre that it is complementary to your flooring for a polished and put-together look. If you have rich, wood flooring, then going with bamboo fixtures is a good idea. For smooth, sleek tile floors, your favorite metal finish will complement the overall style of the room.

• Go for quality. Choose the top of the range illumination fixtures that you can afford. After all, you may not change them for many years to come! Choose high end fixtures that are rated for safety and that are backed up by a warranty from the manufacturer.

• Select a lasting style. While it may be trendy to hang a hot pink lighting fixture now, what happens when you decide that pink is just not your color? Think about the long-lasting appeal of your bathroom lighting choices, and avoid overly loud colors or finishes that may be out of "vogue" before your budget allows for replacement!
