5 Modern Kitchen Lighting Tips

The kitchen is one of the places that needs really effective lighting. Room illumination has gone a long way since then and now we are faced with more modern options. The contemporary designs that we used to adore seem like a hundred years away already. Give your kitchen a little boost by adding modern illumination fixtures. Here are some tips to start with.

  1. 1. Brighening up the whole room is never easy. You must choose the right overhead illumination that can brighten up your entire kitchen. Choose a center fixture that is up to date yet still matches you kitchen style. Try installing track lighting fixtureswith multiple separate bulbs. This can be very helpful if your kitchen is long. You may choose straight tracks like the Imperial Bronze Pueblo Transitional 4 Light Fixed Track Light From the Pueblo Collection by Quoizel Lighting or curved tracks such as the Brushed Nickel Modern Monorail Track Light Kit from the GK Lightrail Collection by George Kovacs.

  2. 2. Extra illumination over islands is necessary because this is where you prepare the food. Chopping, carving and mixing different amounts are done on this part of the kitchen so it must be well lit to ensure the perfection of each dish. Pendants hanging just above the island are perfect modern additions to your kitchen. There are simple pendants such as the Brushed Nickel Retro Single Light Pendant from the Galaxie Collection by Kichler Lighting for smaller islands. Bigger islands may call for more fixtures such as the Antique Bronze Modern 35w 4 Light Island Pendant by Forte Lighting that is sure to effectively brighten up your work area but also satisfy your classy modern taste.

  3. 3. Beneath the upper cabinets are spaces that will often get shadowed by the cabinet itself or the person standing in front of a counter. Light up this area by installing the chic White Modern Diode 28 LED Under Cabinet Light by American Fluorescent. This fixture can lift up spaces under big cabinets while you may want single fixtures such as the Black Modern Single Light 10" Under Cabinet Light by CSL Lighting.

  4. 4. The pantry is also a place to install adequate illumination sources. You can install under cabinet ones if there is enough space in between shelves but if the only option is overhead illumination then choose one that has bulbs that can be pointed to different directions. One great fixture with this feature is the Chrome Cherry Red Mir Modern Three Light Track Light from the Mir Collection by Eurofase.

  5. 5. Aside from the necessary areas that need to be illuminated, you may also add a bit more class into your kitchen with the use of accenting. Add small bulbs inside your cabinets to highlight your china and crystal. Browse through the various up 'spots', soft halogen ones, spots and even floor illumination and let your imagination lose. Add to the ambiance and the mood in your kitchen with illumination that is not just useful but also full of aesthetic value.
