There are many things to consider when you think about going green. Not only is it a cost saving thing to do, but it really does help our environment. So, just how much can you do and what do you need to change and how much of an impact is it really going to have?
There are many things that you can do to increase the efficiency of your lights. You can replace your incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs, or LED lights. Both are much more energy efficient and they can save you a lot of energy and can also save you some money.
Lamps are a great addition to any home. They come in such a wide variety of style and designs. Their cost can also vary just as much. But the need that they all fill is for us to have the beautiful luminescence that they provide for our living spaces.
Many designers have gotten on the "going green" bandwagon and have started designing lamps that are beautiful and green. For example there are lamps being made to look like Chinese parasols that are really made out of 100% recyclable plywood.
I'm all for going green, but I am having a hard time coming up with ideas on how to conserve the massive quantities of energy that is used in the illumination of my life. I'll admit it I love light! I was willing to give up the traditional incandescent bulb for a fluorescent bulb. Even though I think the incandescent bulb is much prettier and adds so much more character to your decorating.
For so long all we had to choose from were incandescent light bulbs. Of course you could choose between the clear or soft white. Then fluorescent bulbs came on the market. You could choose ring type bulbs or which length 2, 4, or 6 foot lengths you wanted.
LED is the wave of the future. It used to be so expensive to use LED lighting that is was mostly used in upper end commercial projects. Now however the price has come down considerably and the different manufacturers are catering more to the residential customer.
In the last article I went over some suggestions to help you change some simple things in the lighting of your home that would help you to "go green". Changing old incandescent bulbs for the newer fluorescent bulbs or LED bulbs and paying attention to some of your habits about how you use the electricity in your home.
You hear it all the time. "Go Green" is the new mantra. It seems that this touches every aspect of our lives. So, let's talk about it in an area of our lives where we would really miss the convenience if it suddenly went away...light!
Have you ever noticed that the more you come to rely on something the less willing you are to do without it? Even if the cost of having this "necessity" is going through the roof we still the need to have it. Even if the production of this "necessity" is taking a terrible toll on our environment we are so addicted that we don't want to give it up. I am talking about our dependence on electricity.
In the era before electricity, homes were illuminated by windows, by candles and then by gas lamps. The ubiquitous ceiling-hung incandescent bulb became the state of illumination art for a while. Flush mount ceiling lights are just one option among thousands for helping homeowners to avoid barking their shins on the furniture, to read their books or to do their embroidery. They function perfectly without being obtrusive. They allow the atmosphere and interior design to be seen and appreciated without being an eye-drawing obtrusive part of that scene. They are economical, they work perfectly every time and they are unnoticed while enabling us to see completely.
